“If things start happening, don't worry, don't stew, just go right along and you'll start happening too" or so says Dr Seuss. How do you get started on a new project?

Nike says ‘just do it!’ I really like documenting my process so I tend to start out with a visual diary or journal which I obsessively stick initial notes, sketches, ideas and inspiration into. As my learning progresses further into motif development and eventually artwork for screens, the journal gradually gets abandoned as I throw myself into creating the final outcome.

Bricolage is about using and utilising what you find to hand. What tools or techniques do you find you can’t help coming back to?

Mostly pencil and ink which is always lying around in a backpack, a pyjama pocket, or desk drawer! When I travelled in 2010, I drew to reflect how i was feeling at the time, and as a way of capturing fleeting moments around me. Living out of a backpack, it was vital that my tools were few, compact, non-messy and always at hand! Graphite pencil and black pen are the go-to on-the-go media for me...

Why textile design? (Or maybe by the end of the course, why not...!)

I am majoring in print and I’ve always loved drawing – I can even remember the first time I picked up a pencil! Prior to this course I did studies in fashion design and also some fine arts. And while I found both of these things to be creative and interesting, they were not quite right options for me! My friend accompanied me to the RMIT Fashion and Textiles exhibit in 2010, prompting me to apply for the Textile Design program - and here I am! Deciding to apply for this degree is one of the best decisions I have ever made, I have loved it.
